Microchipping in Sydney
Bayside Animal Hospital microchips cats and dogs, to help you protect your pets from becoming lost.
Our microchipping services involve gently implanting a small chip under your pet’s skin using a sterile needle, similar to a regular vaccination. This chip contains a unique identification number registered and linked to NSW Companion Animals Register with your contact details for easy identification and reunion if your pet gets lost.
Our vets only use ISO-compliant microchips, ensuring the highest quality and compatibility with various scanning devices.
Why is Pet Microchip Important?
This essential step ensures their safety and well-being. A small, implantable chip holds a unique identification number linked to your contact details, making it easy to reunite your furry friends with you if they become lost or separated.
Vet clinics, animal shelters, and other organisations can quickly and reliably find you if your pet needs assistance. Microchipping offers peace of mind, prevents loss, and promotes responsible pet ownership.
What Happens If I Don’t Get My Pet Microchipped?
The microchip registry in NSW mandates that all cats and dogs be microchipped by 12 weeks of age or before they are sold or given away, whichever comes first. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a fixed penalty notice of $180 or a maximum penalty of up to $880, as determined by the court.
If your dog falls under the classification of a restricted or declared dangerous dog, you may face a fixed penalty notice of $1,320 or a maximum penalty of $5,500 as determined by the court.
Dog Microchip
For our canine companions, a dog microchip in Sydney is crucial in responsible pet ownership. Whether you have an adventurous pup who loves to explore or a loyal companion who occasionally walks away, a microchip can significantly increase the chances of a happy reunion.
Cat Microchip
Cats are known for their independent nature, and while they may spend most of their time indoors, accidents can happen. Microchip cat in Sydney gives you a better chance if they get lost to identify your cat and return to your loving arms.
How does the microchipping procedure work?
Our microchip clinic‘s procedure is quick, and similar to a routine vaccination. Our experienced vets will gently inject the microchip beneath your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. The procedure can be performed during a regular vet consultation or as part of another medical procedure, such as desexing.
*There’s no need for anaesthesia, sedation or pain relief medication for microchipping in most instances.
The registration & update details
The pet microchip registry fee is a once-only payment, which covers the cat or dog for its lifetime in NSW, regardless of any changes in ownership.
If you need to update your details you can change them on the NSW Pet Registry website.
In case of moving, you must make sure that you update them within 14 days of moving. You must ensure that your details are current, not just to meet the requirements of the law but to help you reunite with your little one sooner.
Ensure your pet is microchipped before selling or giving it away, and complete the ‘Change of Owner Form’ with the new owner. Remember to submit the form to the local council within 14 days of rehoming your dog or cat. Taking these steps is crucial for a smooth transition and responsibility.
When else should I update my details?
- After the change of your pet’s details, for e.g. desexed (must notify within 16 days)
- Your pet has been missing for more than 72 hours (must notify within 96 hours)
